Uganda Red Cross Society launches “Humanity Needs You’’ Campaign

Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) has launched the “Humanity Needs You” campaign, urging the public to join the National Society in making a positive impact across the country. This campaign aims to engage the public in supporting Uganda Red Cross Society initiatives, raise funds for various programs, and educate people about the organization’s crucial role in Uganda.

The “Humanity Needs You” campaign comes at a time when the Uganda Red Cross Society marks 60 years of dedicated service to humanity.  Since its establishment in 1964, URCS has been at the fore front of saving lives, building resilient communities and promoting human dignity.

Speaking at the campaign launch, Robert Kwesiga, URCS Secretary General, reflected on the Society’s remarkable journey over the past 60 years. “We have seen a number of changes as the National Society has transitioned, moving just offering aid during times of war, to the bigger mandate we have today, amidst the overwhelming needs of people. Whenever there’s a life-threatening occurrence, Red Cross has to come through to save people’s lives. The public always looks up to us, and we have to live to this call. We however need to have resources readily available to be able to respond. These resources include human resources and the financial muscle required” Kwesiga said.

“As we launch the ‘Humanity Needs You’ campaign, we are reminded of the power of collective effort and the difference we can make if we come together as a Ugandans, and all people who love humanity. The Uganda Red Cross has created this space for you, come and join us. we are committed to serving the most vulnerable, and we call upon every Ugandan to join us in this mission. Join as a member, a volunteer, an ambassador, a blood donor, among others. Give towards serving humanity, and together, we can build a stronger and more resilient Uganda Red Cross Society.” Kwesiga added.

The campaign will involve a number of URCS core activities, including:

  • Recruiting new members and volunteers to expand URCS’s network and enhance its capacity to respond to emergencies and conduct humanitarian activities nationwide.
  • Encouraging voluntary blood donations at various locations such as schools, universities, workplaces, and community centers to ensure a steady blood supply.
  • Promoting various Uganda Red Cross programs that benefit Ugandans through this campaign.

Irene Nakasiita, URCS Director of Communications, Resource Mobilization, and Partnerships, highlighted the campaign’s strategic approach. “We intend to leverage the power of media to raise awareness about Uganda Red Cross interventions and mobilize more resources to sustain our programs. Our campaign will target different demographic groups to ensure inclusivity. Corporates can contribute financially, volunteer their time and skills, while youths can donate blood, participate in mobilization activities, champion climate change and environmental initiatives, and engage in community service,” Nakasiita stated.

“Join our campaign and contribute towards saving lives. This is what we mean when we say; ‘Humanity Needs You,’” Nakasiita added.
