Cash and Voucher Assistance is an approach that provides cash and or vouchers directly to recipients of aid enabling them to meet own priority needs with dignity. CVA can be applied across all sectors to meet specific needs.

This Unit leads and assures quality for Cash Transfer Programming, an innovation for humanitarian aid in refugee and internally displaced contexts covering all sectors

Existing Capacities

URCS has disbursed 4,764,462,902 UGX to 73,972 individuals over a space of four (4) years from mid 2020 to date
URCS co-chairs the National Cash Working Group (NCWG)together with UNHCR. The NCWG consists of 423 subscribed members inclusive of UN agencies, INGOs & NGOs, CBOs, Donors and Financial Service Providers
191 in-country stakeholders including staff, volunteers and members of the District Disaster Management Committees of Bunyagabu, Kasese, Kaberamaido, Kayunga, Amolator, Nakasongola, Ntoroko and Kisoro have been trained in CVA
URCS hosted and co-facilitated the Africa Anglophone Practical Emergency Cash Transfer Training for the RCRC movement bringing together over 16 national societies and 04 IFRC regional representation
URCS hosted the inaugural CVA in Anticipatory Action workshop for the RCRC movement with presence of 21 national societies and 03 IFRC regional representations

CVA INTERVENTIONS

Multi Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCT)for FLOODS/LANDSLIDE

17,646 floods/landslides disaster affected populations have been supported with MPCT in Budaka, Sironko, Mbale, Ntoroko, Kasese, Bulambuli

CVA for ANTICIPATORY DRM

Through interventions such as Cash for Work and MPCT for Anticipatory DRM, 4,540 most at risk populations in Kisoro, Kasese and Mbale have been supported to mitigate the impact of forecasted disaster events

MPCT POPULATION MOVEMENT

URCS through its programs has supported over 14,906 most vulnerable refugees to meet their most basic needs in the refugee settlements of Nakivale, Kyangwali, Kyaka II and Kiryandongo.

CVA MENSTRUAL HYGIENE MG’T

3,945 women of reproductive age have been empowered through CVA to access menstrual hygiene products that meet their specific needs

CVA EDUCATION IN EMERGENCIES

2,374 at risk school going children in Kyaka II refugee settlement supported with CVA for school fees and support to scholastic materials to enable them stay in school

CVA COVID 19, CVA LIVELIHOODS

21,351 most vulnerable individuals supported with CVA for COVID 19 response
9,210 supported with CVA for livelihoods.
