Uganda Red Cross Society And Turkish Red Crescent Mark Eid Al-Adha With Slaughter Of 3,100 Cows For Vulnerable Communities

The Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS), in partnership with the Turkish Red Crescent, today launched a large-scale humanitarian meat distribution initiative to commemorate Eid Al-Adha, the Islamic Festival of Sacrifice.

The initiative involved the slaughter and distribution of 3,100 cows to support vulnerable Muslim communities across Uganda.

The distribution took place in two key locations: Isingiro District in Western Uganda where 1,400 cows are being slaughtered and distributed to vulnerable families, including refugees and host communities.

The remaining 1,700 cows were distributed to underserved households in Bugiri District Eastern Uganda.

Eid Al-Adha is a time of compassion, reflection, and generosity. This initiative ensures that disadvantaged communities, including refugees, widows, orphans, the elderly, and internally displaced persons, are able to partake in the joy and spiritual significance of the occasion.

“This initiative reaffirms the values of humanity and solidarity that define the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. We are deeply grateful to our partners at the Turkish Red Crescent for their unwavering generosity and continued support,” said John Cliff Wamala, Communication & Media Relations Officer at the Uganda Red Cross Society.

All activities were carried out in accordance with cultural, religious, and public health guidelines to uphold the dignity, safety, and respect of all beneficiaries.

The Uganda Red Cross Society remains committed to serving the most vulnerable and upholding human dignity, particularly during moments of religious and cultural importance.
