While receiving the donated items, the Uganda Red Cross Secretary General Robert Kwesiga appreciated the Red Cross Society of China for the good partnership shared with Uganda Red Cross over the years.

“We thank our partner National Society for the support given to URCS over the years. This support comes in very handy when URCS has many vulnerable people to support including the South Sudan refugees.  We thank the Chinese Embassy in Uganda for coordinating our relationship with the China National Society of China as well as China Sinopharm International Corporation whom we have worked with closely until the goods were delivered to our ware house in Ntinda. The Humanitarian items will be used to support the vulnerable people we serve while items like laptops and printers will support URCS operations in the country.” Kwesiga added.

The China Red Cross has donated items to Uganda Red Cross on a number of occasions specifically targeting the vulnerable communities in Manafwa district in Eastern Uganda. This followed a Health project which was funded by the Red Cross of China in Manafwa district and impacted greatly on the lives of the vulnerable in the remote communities. Last year (2016), the local government officials from the same district received an ambulance from Uganda Red Cross Society which had been donated by the same donor and this year, medical equipment as well as beddings have been donated to support health facilities in the same region to be able to deliver quality health services. Uganda Red Cross Society commits to continue delivering quality humanitarian services to the most vulnerable people in Uganda and pledges to use the donated items as expected. “We will use the items to serve the purpose for which they have been donated and we pledge to continue working with the China Red Cross to improve the lives of the most Vulnerable”.
