ERA Uganda Partners with Uganda Red Cross Society to Empower girls through the KAGIS initiative

On Friday, March 14, 2025, the Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) had the honor of meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) Uganda, Eng. Ziria Tibalwa Waako, to hand over a consignment of Grace Pads purchased by ERA.

As part of its commitment to social impact and girls’ empowerment, ERA Uganda generously procured 1,000 reusable pads to support URCS “Keep A Girl In School” (KAGIS) Initiative. This contribution will go a long way to strengthen ERA’s Women in Energy Outreach Program, benefiting 30 schools across Kalangala, Masaka, Kabale, and Kasese. By integrating menstrual health awareness into their programs, ERA is fostering an environment where young girls can stay in school and thrive academically without the barriers posed by inadequate menstrual hygiene solutions.

To support this initiative, URCS operates a fully functional reusable sanitary pads manufacturing plant in Namakwa, Mukono District. The plant is dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable girls by distributing 20% of its production for free to underprivileged schools, while the remaining 80% is sold at a subsidized rate to sustain operations.

Through partnerships like this, URCS remains committed to ensuring that every girl has access to sustainable menstrual hygiene management solutions, enabling them to pursue their education with dignity and confidence.
